Dear Earthquake...

....please don't come any time soon.

I have been researching emergency preparedness and food storage because, well I have to be prepared and because...
A. Anything can happen.
B. I live at the intersection of two fault lines.
C. Sometimes I just run outta food/toilet paper/paper towels and don't want to run out to the store and since I am not seeing a husky man-boyfriend in my near future who will come bring me said goodies with a smile on his face, I need to be prepared for these moments in my life.

So...I was on IWillPrepare.com, which otherwise is a great resource and I was looking through all the 90 day food storage recipes. While I think this is a fabulous idea because, I don't know about you but I don't exactly know a meal that could come together out of dried cereal and mixed vegetables in a can, but I do have 2 major issues with it....

1.I don't know why, when we all preparing our 72 hour kits or trying to get our food storage on point, we buy stuff like canned green beans. Now I don't know about you but I hate canned green beans. They are drenched in this nasty substance that makes them taste like formaldehyde and its just badness all around. Now if I am sitting there and my house is in shambles and I have no phone and no way to contact those around me and I'm fighting for my life and all I want is a little ray of happiness, I do not want to be turning to some syrup drenched, limp beans for comfort.

2. Why the heck does food storage have to be so UNHEALTHY!!! Some things on the list...Vienna Sausage, Ramen Noodles, Spam. So now...in addition to being unhappy at the food choices I have decided to choose for my earthquake/Apocalypse/tidal wave induced state, I will be getting fat. Obviously when my roof is gone and I'm trying to find a functioning water source the last thing on my mind will be getting my butt on a treadmill for a little cardio so my food will have to suffice for keeping me healthy. Spam isn't going to do it....AND they have cake mixes...who the heck is like oh, my neighborhood/my city/my state/the Earth is in shambles...time for cake?

If anyone has any brilliant ideas to solve this problem or any good recipes to use kindly let me know so I don't end up coming out of the next disaster fifty pounds heavier and chewing on some spam in a can.

Try dried food omstead. Or camping food where all you have to do add water. The above mentioned foods aren't good for you and the hospitals woudld be a mess too so eating that food would send me there and probably you too! Try a few dried camping foods before you might get that.
